Harmonic Influence: The harmony sets up a full C^13♯9 chord. Look for the "blue notes" in the chord: the D♯ (enharmonic for the ♭3), the F♯ (enharmonic for the ♭5), and the A♯ (enharmonic for the ♭7). Also, watch for the major 7^th tension against the lead voice.
